Running with my Camera? - A Sunday with The Mega Run – Chasing Fitness, Photos, and the Sunrise
Before the world awoke, I was tying my laces and checking my camera bag. The goal? To join The Mega Run at the break of dawn in St Kilda – not just as a photographer, but as a runner too.
There’s something magical about the beach's silence before the runners' arrival. But as the group gathered, the quiet was quickly replaced by the buzz of friendly chatter and the soft thuds of running shoes on the pavement.
I was there to shadow Madi, capturing her fitness journey for a project that’s in the works. Her dedication is inspiring, showing up every weekend to conquer the 10k track. With my cameras clicking, I found myself keeping pace with her (for a little while), laughter escaping us as I juggled shooting and jogging.
The group's energy is infectious, and though I consider myself more shutterbug than runner, today I felt like one of the pack. I managed half the course, a 5k that felt like a marathon, lugging my gear. But every step was worth it – for the shots, the cheers, and the sheer joy of the challenge.
The early morning light was perfect, golden and soft – ideal for the snaps I was after. And as I cheered Madi and the rest when they started coming back, I couldn’t help but think how lucky I was to witness such camaraderie and persistence.
To anyone reading this and thinking of joining – do it. The Mega Run is a family that runs together, and they welcome everyone with open arms (and high-fives).
I’ll be linking to their socials below, so you can feel the warmth of this community from wherever you are. And stay tuned, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite shots from today’s run. They’re more than just images; they’re memories, milestones, and perhaps the start of someone’s new journey – maybe even mine.
Until next time,
